What is melasma?

These patches often contain white watery discharge and there is a problem of flaky skin. There is a feeling of intense itching all the time. Yoga Poses For Melasma:

All such yoga asanas, whose practice increases blood circulation to the face, can prove to be helpful in removing the problem of melasma.

Bhujangasana

1. Bhujangasana (Bhujangasana / Cobra Pose)

Bhujangasana is the 8th out of the 12 asanas of Surya Namaskar, Bhujangasana also known as Sarpasana, Cobra Asana or Snake Pose, in this posture the body forms the shape of a snake. This asana is performed by lying on the ground with the back bent, while the head is in a raised hood position of a snake.

Method of doing Bhujangasana:

  • Lie on the ground on your stomach and keep both the palms near the thighs towards the ground.
  • Make sure that the ankles keep touching each other.
  • Bring the hands equal to the shoulders and bring the palms towards the floor.
  • Put the weight of the body on your palms, breathe in.
  • Lift the head and pull it towards the back, till this time your elbow will remain bent.
  • While pulling the head back, pull the chest forward as well, keep the head pulled like a snake’s hood.
  • Note that, the shoulders should be away from the ears and the shoulders should remain strong.
  • Increase the pressure from the hips, thighs and feet towards the floor and keep the body in this position for about 15 to 30 seconds.
  • During this, maintain the normal breathing rate, feel that your stomach is pressing towards the floor.
  • After practice, you can do this asana for 2 minutes.
  • To release the pose, slowly bring your hands back to the side.
  • Rest the head on the floor. Keep your hands under your head.
  • Gently turn the head to one side and breathe slowly for two minutes.

How does it work?

Bhujangasana gives excellent stretch to the whole body. Due to good stretching in the body, blood circulation starts increasing throughout the body, due to faster blood circulation, more nutrients reach the whole body. Due to increased blood circulation in the dark spots of melasma, the color of these spots starts getting lighter, due to lightening of the color of the spots, the skin starts glowing. Slowly, but with changing times, the skin starts getting better and healthier.

 

Sarvangasana

2. Sarvangasana / Shoulder Stand Pose

Sarvangasana is the posture of hatha yoga, it is considered to be an asana of medium difficulty or intermediate level, the duration of doing it is said to be 30 to 60 seconds. With regular practice of Sarvangasana, the arms and shoulders, middle back, upper back, core (abs), neck etc. get stretched and strengthened.

Method of doing Sarvangasana:

  • Lie on your back on a yoga mat, keeping the blanket folded under the shoulders.
  • Bring the shoulders in line with the edge of the blanket, keep both hands along the body, palms down.
  • Raise the legs straight up in the air.
  • Slowly bend the legs towards the head.
  • Support both the hands by taking them on the waist and the fingers of the hands will remain upwards.
  • Lift the legs by pulling them upwards.
  • Shoulders, spine and hips will come in one line, stay in this position for 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
  • Now slowly bring the spine on the yoga mat and slowly bring the legs on the yoga mat.

How does it work?

In the science of yoga, Shirshasan and Sarvangasana have been created to protect the body from the opposing effect of the force of gravity. Due to the effect of force of gravity, the skin of the body starts loosening with age. But since the body is turned back by the practice of Shirshasana and Sarvangasana.
