The Rise of the Professional Woman in the Coworking Space

Coworking-Women have come a long way fighting for what they deserve. Historically speaking, the division of labor has been organized according to gender lines. However, physical labor was not just man’s work. Women had been performing physical labor like working agriculture fields, grinding grains on stone quern, fetching and carrying water, etcetera. 

 

The work situation for men and women changed with the Industrial Revolution in the late 17th century. It shifted the location of work from home to factories. First of many families worked together in the factories initially. But, the role of women in the workforce did not change overnight. In the mid 19th century, men emerged as the sole provider for the family, while women took up more domestic and household tasks. 

 

The nature of women’s work changes with social and economic development. Like, with the increasing demand in the education sector, employers start hiring women for the job. But yet again, the pay scale of men and women had a huge difference. Moreover, earlier women were stuck with jobs like teacher, nurse, hospitality, etcetera. 

 

But, over the past few decades, women have entered into a variety of different professions. Professions that were once male-centric and with the equal pay scale. Women have shattered the glass ceiling of occupational sexism as they entered and rise in the ranks of the workforce. Facing inequality at the workplace, they broke every barrier and participated equally in work.

Breaking Stereotypes and Entering Male-dominated Fields

Apart from stereotypes revolving around women’s education, there have been many stereotypes regarding their profession. For example, fields like technology, mathematics, science, and engineering were full of me. 

 

But now, women are making their way into these streams and thriving in them. Slowly and steadily, they are succeeding in them and making their name in these fields. Stereotypes suggested that men should stick to the professions like doctor, pilot, driver, engineer, etcetera. 

 

While women were more likely to be seen as teachers, nurses, air hostesses, etcetera. But, over the last few decades, women have broken all types of stereotypes that stood as a barrier between them and their choice of profession.

Access to Capital and Becoming Entrepreneurs

With proper higher education, women now have access to capital outlays. Several loan programs are targeting women for loans and grants. With this, more women are pursuing a career as an entrepreneur and businesswoman. 

 

Coworking spaces in Hyderabad offer women-centric workspaces. Now they have the sources as well as resources to help them create and successfully run a business. 

 

Moreover, such successful women entrepreneurs are inspiring hundreds of women out there with the help of social media and crowdfunding. Moreover, the busiest of moms are also working as entrepreneurs with flexible work hours. 

Working Moms

Breaking the traditional stereotype of stay-at-home moms, many women are taking up flexible jobs. Several moms are coming along with the trend of becoming entrepreneurs. Even the busiest of moms are running their own business as they work in their spare time. Women are now able to work professionally along with taking care of their children. With the changing trends, they no longer have to stick to 9-5 jobs. Now women are free to work and can become the sole bread earners of the house. Equality in Workplace

Now a majority of women have the liberty and access to education and job opportunities. Now they work together with men in the same place, sharing the same workload. But still, they would fall prey to inequality and favoritism in the organization. 

 

However, slowly these things are changing, and women are being considered equal to men. They are coworking and sharing the same designation with equal wages. The basis of promotion is becoming experience and knowledge rather than gender.
