Become a More Playful Parent: 5 Tips for Playing Dolls with Your Child

Putting in some quality time with your child is something you should never take for granted. Learning how to play dolls is one of the best ways to do it.

You’ll want to maximize this time with your child while also learning strategies that’ll teach them important skills. So what should you know about dolls and playtime?

We’re happy to explain. Here are some tips to become a kid again by playing dolls with your child.

  1. Embrace Your Inner Child

If you’re going to play dolls with your child, you may as well all the way embrace your inner child in the process. We adults have so much on our plates that we tend to take ourselves too seriously at times.

Giving yourself space to be a kid again can be quite therapeutic. You might even find that this playtime with your child ends up being the favorite part of your week.

Allow yourself permission to be silly with the volume all the way up, and allow your imagination to soar.

  1. Come Up With Names and Storylines

Put some creativity into these sessions by coming up with names and storylines for your child’s dolls. Get their input and make it an interactive experience that the two of you build together.

You can play out different doll activities and scenarios, complete with outfit and setting changes. It’ll teach your child to grow their imagination and will make for a fun and fluid experience.

  1. Learn the Benefits of Play

You’ll also enjoy playing with your child more when you understand its benefits.

Some of the benefits of playing with dolls include building imagination, developing motor skills, teaching empathy, and getting lots of quality time with mom and dad. Knowing that you’re making your child smarter and more attentive blends play with development.

  1. Buy Some Quality Dolls

Make sure to also search for the best dolls that you can find. You both will get more out of each play session when your child is in love with the doll and you know they’re getting high quality.

Perhaps your child likes LOL Surprise Dolls because of their quality and variety. Maybe they’re partial to Barbies or Bratz dolls. Research what’s hot and help your child start their collection.

  1. Set Aside Plenty of Time

This is arguably the most important tip for playing with your child. When it’s all said and done, your child won’t likely remember the exact details of their dolls years from now. What they will remember is the time you spent with them.

Set aside time strictly to play with them so that you’re not in a rush and so that your mind isn’t distracted. The last thing you want is to rush through the time that they’re expected to spend with you.

Aside from play, make sure that you’re focusing on the other big P – presence.

When you learn to live in the present moment, you’re better able to have meaningful time with your child. There’s going to come a time (sooner than you think!) that your child will be done with dolls forever, and you’ll pine for those days when they were just your little kid.

Appreciate these times while you have them by soaking in the moment and putting in the time.

Make Playing Dolls a High Point
