2020 was nothing but a challenging year. Not only did COVID-19 impact our routines, but the lockdown forced various production houses to shut down and halt the releases of great blockbusters like Black Widow and many more. Most importantly, it took over the lives of many shining gems of the Bollywood and Hollywood industries. The loss of these legends both in the Hollywood and Bollywood industry is immense. And both cannot be the same without them anymore. We would always feel their lack of presence. We witnessed many fans posting tributes in various videos and pictures on Instagram and Facebook to those masterpieces of the film industry.

So today, with a heavy heart, we present to you the gems we lost to the ‘Pandemic Year” –
Chadwick Boseman – Died At 43
Marvel fans were stunned by their dearest King T’challa, who died of stage four colon cancer. Even while fighting this battle alone, Chadwick was first seen in Captain America: Civil War, and later, he swept the audience from their feet in his next lead role movie ‘Black Panther’ in 2018. This movie won an Academy Award for best soundtrack. He has also made several appearances in many real-life icon roles like Jackie Robinson in ’42’ and James Brown in ‘Get Up’. Chadwick was a true fighter and an example of possessing a brave heart that dares to dream big. He will always be loved and remain in the heart of fans—Chadwick breath his last breath on August 28.

Olivia de Havilland – Died At 104
A two-time Oscar-winning actress, Olivia de Havilland knew how to become one of the leading female actors in the 1930’s and 40’s. She is best known for her portrayal of Arabella Bishop alongside Peter Blood (Errol Flynn) in ‘Captain Blood’ in 1935 and ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood’ in 1938. Through her portrayal of Melanie Hamilton in ‘Gone with the wind’, Olivia grabbed her Oscar nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actress. Still, she later went out to win two Academy Awards for ‘Best Actress for ‘To Each His Own’ (1946) and ‘The Heiress’ (1949). Havilland lived a life full of adventures that are indeed worth remembering. Olivia passed away from natural causes on July 26.
Kirk Douglas – Died At 103
A legendary actor, Douglas showed the guts for portraying every role he got, and hence he proved himself to be a versatile actor in the late ’50s. Douglas worked hard, sometimes nights and days combined, to earn the title of ‘acting titan’ he has today. He lived in the golden years of Hollywood, and his son Michael continued with his legacy to become a notable Hollywood actor and producer. Douglas is best known for his acting in ‘Spartacus’ (1960), ‘Paths of Glory (1957), the Disney classic ‘20,000 Leagues under the Sea’ (1954), and Oscar-nominated Champion’ (1949), ‘The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) and ‘Lust for Life’ (1956). Kirk died on February 5, where the cause of death was kept private by his family.
Irrfan Khan – Died At 53
When the internet broke the news of Irfan Khan’s sudden passing, it left us all shattered to the core. Khan, a boon to Indian cinema, had begun to mark his grounds and create history in Hollywood when he suddenly died. He worked in some tremendous award-winning movies like ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Jurassic World’. He is a true hero and inspiration for every Indian and never gave up on his life until the last. He died on April 29 2020, after a battle with cancer and left a space in our hearts.
Kelly Preston, Died at 57
The early death of Preston had severely shocked fans and the Hollywood industry to the core when the internet went viral with her news on July 12. The actress was well known for her roles in ‘Twins’ (1988) and ‘Jerry Maguire’ (1996) along with ‘For Love of the Game’ (1999), ‘The Cat in the Hat’ (2003), and ‘Sky High’ (2005). Preston married John Travolta in 1991. “She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched,” comments a representative from Preston’s family to People. Kelly fought bravely against breast cancer.
Buck Henry, Died at 89
Known for being a regular host in the early years of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and being the co-creator of ‘Get Smart’ in the 1960s with Mel Brooks, Buck Henry is also recognized for movies like ‘Heaven Can Wait’ (1978), ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), and many more. He also co-wrote the 1972 blockbuster ‘What’s Up, Doc?’ with Peter Bogdanovich and ‘The Graduate’ (1967), which merited them an Oscar nomination. He also attained an Academy Award nomination for directing ‘Heaven Can Wait’ in 1978, alongside Warren Beatty. Buck died of a heart attack at the age of 89 on January 8 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in L.A.
Ian Holm, Died at 88
Holm’s talents are recognised in many movies as he gave memorable roles portrayals of Ash in ‘Aliens’ (1979) and Bilbo Baggins in ‘The Lord of the Rings and ‘The Hobbit’ series. Ian counted his last breath due to Parkinson’s disease on July 19 2020.
Terry Jones, Died at 77
Known for being one of the members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Jones also directed movies with the comedy group in the 1970s and 1980s, including ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ (along with Terry Gilliam) (1975), ‘Monty Python’s Life of Brian’ (1979) and ‘Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983). “We have all lost a kind, funny, warm, creative, and truly loving man whose uncompromising individuality, relentless intellect, and extraordinary humour has given pleasure to countless millions across six decades,” says his family while addressing the Guardian. Terry Jones passed away due to dementia complications on January 21, 2020.
Whenever we watch their works, it feels strange to say that these gems and no longer walking the earth with us as they’ve left a huge hole that could be filled with nobody with them.
