Impact of the new education policy

The new education policy in India was implemented after almost 34 years. For the past 34 years no changes were done so far. The educational system worked the same way for 34 long years. The new policy will surely lead to a revolutionary change in the education system of India. Along with that it has also addressed the criticisms of the previous policy and brought positive changes Now as the latest changes needs to be implemented by institutions across the world following Indian education system, let’s have a look at the impact of the new education policy on both, i.e, students and teachers.

Positive effect of the new education policy.

  1. Choose the subjects, not the stream

Earlier the students were divided by streams of arts, commerce and science. They were not given the choice to choose subjects of their stream. But with this new education policy the students no more have to choose a stream. They now have the flexibility to choose any subject from any stream. Implementing this rule the students can study biology and accountancy together.

  1. Change in the academic structure

The earlier structure being 10+2 has now changed into 5+3+3+4. The new structure basically has stages system. The preschool stage consists of 3-6 years and classes 1 and 2. The next stage is preparatory where they mainly spend 3 years and focus on classroom activities, discoveries, and playing. The one after the above is middle stage. This mainly involves classes 6-8 and focuses on experiential learning. The last stage in the best CBSE school in Andhra Pradesh is the secondary stage. This consists of 4 years, which is from class 9-12. This is the stage where students don’t have to choose streams but subjects. This stage has main focus on multi-disciplinary.

  1. Training jobs

The Indian educational system has started well with vocational training jobs. These vocational training jobs are plumbing, electrician, carpentry, welding etc,. These jobs were looked with disdain in India. But now, these are vocational training jobs that the students from class 6 have to do internships in. Let’s consider an example:

From grade 6 the students will be a given a period of 10 days. In these 10 days they don’t have to carry a bag and go to school instead they have to do these vocational training’s jobs like carpentry, welding, electrician etc,. This will surely let them gain some experience and also lead to critical thinking which is important for future classes.

  1. Coding

To compete with the international standards, the best residential school in Andhra Pradesh is now going to adopt coding. One of the most important and trending policy is coding. Coding is really important for this generation. This helps them to grow and develop interests and come up with their own new ideas for games, software etc,. Coding will be a subject to be taught from grade 6. In addition to this, the importance of board exams in secondary stage will be reduced.

  1. Evaluating report cards

The previous policy had teachers evaluating the report cards and giving scores to the students, but the new change is that the teacher and the student self-assess their performance. This helps the students to identify how they have performed overall and what is that they can do better. This is a part of critical thinking that also helps in future.

  1. Government spending on education.

The government of India has decided to spend minimum of 6% of the GDP, whereas earlier it was just 3% which was clearly less when compared to developed and developing countries.

  1. Exit after class 12

The old policy did not have multiple options after class 12 exit, whereas this new policy has multiple entry and exit of programme. Let’s consider an example:

Let’s assume you study for a specific course and by the end of year 1 you’re no more interested and want to change your subjects. You can easily do that and the 1 year that you studied the credit gets transferred to the other subjects you want to study. This is an already ongoing policy on some developed countries.

The impact of new policy on teachers

For having better qualified teachers the purpose is set to 4 years of integrated BEd as the minimum qualification. But, a 2 year BEd will also be considered for a teacher if the candidate has a bachelor degree in specialized subjects. Therefore these were the following positive impact of the new education policy on students and teachers. These new policies will surely help make the education system better and will surely focus more on students’ development than just focus on studying and passing out.
