How to use a media encoder?

Adobe media encoder is a part of the Adobe creative suite. It is one of the many applications which are created by Adobe to help the artists in creating amazing pieces of work. Adobe media encoder helps the users to export the videos from the devices to various media platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo etc. You can easily export all the videos stored on your device, whether it is a PC, or a mobile phone, a DVD player or a tape deck using a media encoder.

To use media encoder, download an adobe application, or the complete suite. If you already have the suite, you need to make sure that the media encoder app is updated.

Steps to update media encoder-

  1. Open the desktop app of Adobe creative cloud.
  2. Click on the option for all apps. Review your apps and search for media encoders.
  3. In front of the media encoder, there will either be the option to update or install. Click on that option. If you already have a media encoder app on your computer, it will be updated. If you don’t have an app then you can install it.
  4. Media encoder will be shown in the list of all apps, once it is installed or updated. Double click on the app to open it.

Steps to add files to media encoder-

There are three ways in which you can add files you want to compress to the adobe media encoder application.

  1- Add file from the device storage-

  • After opening Adobe media encoder, click on the option File.
  • Click on Add Source or +
  • Browse the file you want to add to the queue. Select OK
  • The file will be added to the queue from your device.

  2- Importing from After Effects-

  • Open After effects
  • Select File. Click on Export.
  • Choose the file and click on Add to Media Encoder Queue.

 3- Importing from Premiere Pro-

  • Open Premiere Pro
  • Open File. Click on Export.
  • Select Media. The Export window will pop up. Click on Queue.

This way, you can add to the queue of media encoders the file you want to compress. Now, you need to adjust the settings in the media encoder according to your choice.

Media encoder comes with a list of presets, which come pre-loaded in the app. However, you can make changes to the default settings. You can edit the text, the format and other things about the video, on the basis of the platform where you want to publish it. All these settings can be done under the Preset option in the Media Encoder Queue.

After making the settings, you can start encoding. You can encode more than one file at a time. However, if you wish to stop encoding one or some files from the list in between the process, you need to follow some steps.

How to stop encoding

  1. Click on the queue which has the file that you do not want to encode. Then click on File> Stop current Item. The selected item will stop encoding while the others will continue.
  2. If you want to stop all the files from being encoded, you can click on File> Stop Queue. All the files will be stopped from being encoded.

After your work is completed, make sure you clear the queue, or a large list of encoded files will pile up on your encoder screen. To clear the queue, you just need to select the files you want to remove from the queue, right click on them, and then select Remove.
