How To Add SEO Keywords In Website – Explained Properly
If you understand how SEO (Search Engine Optimization) works then you’ll know that the sole aim of SEO is to improve your website’s visibility online. To do this, SEO takes advantage of what is known as Keywords. These keywords are used by search engines to filter through tons of websites available to provide the most relevant websites that will answer the question that was asked or searched SEO keyword research.
With that in mind, we can all see how important keywords are but then you are not the one writing on that particular niche or the only one who knows about SEO keywords. That means to rank higher, increase the chances of being found, and be indexed for certain keywords above other websites that use the same keywords, you need to learn how to correctly add your keywords. That’s why in today’s blog post, I’ll be teaching you how to add SEO keywords to the website.
What are SEO Keywords?
In simple terms, SEO keywords are keywords or phrases when embedded into your web content making it possible for people to find your website via search engines.
How Many Keywords Can I Use on a Web Page?
When determining the number of keywords you want to add to a page, it largely depends on the keywords you have chosen to use, how the keywords are related to one another, and if they can help with pushing the message of the content forward. If you performed the right SEO keyword research then it shouldn’t be difficult to come up with a list of 5 to 10 keywords.
Just because you can come up with 10 keywords doesn’t mean you should focus on all 10 and that’s because there’s something known as keyword hierarchy. All keywords aren’t the same. In SEO, there are three major keywords:
Primary Keywords: Your entire article should be focused on your Primary keywords—i.e., both the title and the body should reflect it.
Secondary Keywords: Just like the name implies “secondary”, they are used to complement the Primary keywords.
Additional Keywords: These are related keywords that are simply spelled or phrased differently than the first two but they mean the same thing.
How to Add SEO Keywords to Website
After doing your research and you have discovered your keywords, there are 6 important places you should consider placing those keywords on each page of your website.
When you include your keywords in the 6 places I’ll be showing you shortly, they’ll make it easier for search engines to be able to easily identify the subject of your page then rank your page in search results. The 6 places include:
- Page Title
- Meta Description
- Header
- Sub Header
- Body Paragraphs
- Image Alt Tags
Page Title and Meta Description
Page titles and Meta descriptions make up the technical part of keywording your website. Hence, their importance in your Internet marketing efforts cannot be overemphasized.
Your page titles and meta descriptions are the parts of your website that show up in search results and they are the first things your potential customer gets to see about your web page. If you can’t add the keywords to your title and meta description (i.e., you don’t have access to your website’s meta description and page) then you should check with your website’s management company and ensure that those areas are correctly filled for the SEO to work.
Headers
Ever seen billboards? Yeah, you have. Headers are seen like billboards by search engines. Nothing tells search engines what the main subject of your page is all about more than headers. Hence, to improve your visibility you must include your entire keyword in your header.
Sub Headers
Asides from your headers, subheaders can also be used to tell search engines what your web page should appear for.
Body Paragraph
Always try to include your keywords while writing the content of your website’s page and if you can’t include all make sure part of your keywords are included (the important ones). Do well to ensure that your writing is as natural as possible otherwise search engines will penalize your website for repeating keywords too many times in a way that seems unnatural.
Image Alt Tags
Images are also part of SEO and not many people know this. Regardless of your business or niche, images make a great addition to any web page and they can even help improve your ranking in search engines. Alt tags are simply the labels you attach to your image to help search engines read the image. If you fail to use alt tags on your images then search engines will be blind to the images you put on your web page.
Every time you alt tag your image, you are simply telling search engines that I used an image and the image used related to the subject of this page.
