The UPSC conducts the NDA exam for short-listing candidates for the Air force because, being a coveted force, the Government wants to maintain high standards of selection.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA –
Age – 161/2 to 191/2 years (at the time of commencement, of course)
Nationality–Indian
Gender – Men only
O Educational Qualifications – 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics. Appearing final year students can also be eligible to apply.

- Branches
The entry through NDA is open for Flying branch, Ground duty (tech), and Ground duty (nontech). All cadets of Flying branch and Ground duty (tech) NDA offer them a B Tech and cadets of Ground Duty (Non-tech) we give them a B SC degree.
Women candidates wanting to know how to join IAF should be at least graduates with a minimum of 50 percent in Math’s & Physics at 10+2 level because they will manage the air operation of IAF.
Graduates/Engineers desirous of joining the Flying branch should attempt the CDSE which UPSC conducts twice a year. One needs to be a graduate with physics & Mathematics at 10+ 2 levels to be considered for the flying branch because IAF is a highly technical force with varied operations.
The NCC Special Entry is for both men & women who have attained a minimum of 50 percent in Maths & Physics at 10+2 level & graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 60 percent.
- Female engineers can join IAF if they are BE/B Tech with a minimum of 60 percent marks because they will maneuver some of the most advanced jets on the planet. They should have NCC Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ certificate and the validity of the certificate would be two years before the date of advertisement.
- Those candidates (both men & women) who hold a valid commercial pilot license are eligible for the age of 26 years because of the need for pilots in IAF.

BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
OR
- Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- Final Year/semester students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any present backlogs at the time of AFSB Testing and produce a Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
- NCC Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ certificate and validity of the certificate would be two years before the date of advertisement.

Short Service Commission entry for Men & Women
Both men & women are eligible to apply for SSC in the flying branch because many professionals abandon IAF & look for greener pastures after few years of sa ervice. This is one way to join IAF because you can apply through AFCAT (Air force Common Admission Test) & look for a viable flying career.

Eligibility criteria:
Age – 20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement, of course). The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years(at the time of commencement of course).
Nationality – Indian
Marital Status – Single
Gender – Men and Women.
Educational Qualifications
- Minimum of 50% marks each in Math’s & Physics at 10+2 level.
- Graduates (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent OR BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
- Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- Final Year students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlog at the time of AFSB Testing and produce a Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.

For Ground Duty Technical
To Join IAF in Ground duty technical, one should be a graduate/postgraduate in engineering & technology with a minimum of 60 percent each in Physics & Mathematics at 10+ 2level.
Ground Duty (Non-Technical)
One can join IAF in the non-technical branches because they will provide logistical & administrative support to the IAF by carrying out its operations.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branches
- Age – 20 to 26 Years for graduates (at the time of commencement, of course).
- Marital Status – Candidates for the age of 25 years must be unmarried.
- Nationality – Indian.
- Gender – Both men and women.
As a Graduate, you can join as an officer in any of the following Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branches.
ADMINISTRATION BRANCH
- Permanent Commission (for Men)/Short Service Commission (for Men & Women)
- Responsible for the efficient management of both human and material resources. They train some officers of the Administration Branch to carry out the following duties also:
Air Traffic Controller–Involves maintaining an orderly flow of traffic and airspace management.
Fighter Controller–Performs the job of directing Fighter Aircraft and Weapon Systems against the enemy in various Air Operations while ensuring Air Defense of the nation using Radar Networks.
Educational Qualifications
o Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
ACCOUNTS BRANCH
- Permanent Commission (for Men)/Short Service Commission (for Men & Women)
- Responsible for the efficient financial management of funds. You will also act as an internal auditor to ensure a zero-defect audit from outside agencies.
- Educational Qualifications
B.Com degree (minimum three-year degree course) from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
LOGISTICS BRANCH
- Permanent Commission (for Men)/Short Service Commission (for Men & Women)
- Responsible for materials management of all Air Force resources. You would ensure efficient supervision of inventories and involve in procurement processes of various ranges of equipment.
- Educational Qualifications
o Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
EDUCATION BRANCH
- Permanent Commission (for Men)/Short Service Commission (for Men & Women)
- Educational Qualifications
Passed 10+2 and Post-Graduation with 50% in any discipline, including integrated courses offering PG (Single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry) and with 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline because
For integrated courses (single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry), the minimum duration must be as per prevailing UGC guidelines with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
METEOROLOGY BRANCH
- Permanent Commission (for Men)/Short Service Commission (for Men & Women)
- As a Meteorology Branch Officer, it would involve you handling the latest satellite imagery and state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. You would render specific advice to the operators on all aspects of weather.
Educational Qualifications
Post-Graduation Degree in any science stream/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Geography/ Computer Applications/ Environmental Science/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/ Agricultural Meteorology/ Ecology & Environment/ Geo-physics/ Environmental Biology. All candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in all papers of Post-Graduation put together (provided they studied Math’s & Physics at Graduation level with a minimum of 55% marks in both).
