CAT Exam 2022: Notification, Exam Date, Registration

The CAT 2022 exam will be held in three slots on the last Sunday of November 2022. Every year, one of the 20 IIMs holds the CAT exam. CAT 2022 registration will commence after the release of the official announcement, which is expected to be in July/August 2022.

Candidates must have finished their graduation with a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ ST/ PwD) to be eligible to take the CAT 2022. There is also no higher age limit for taking the CAT exam. Examine the CAT 2022 Eligibility Requirements.

According to the updated CAT exam design, the paper will include 66 questions divided into three sections: VARC (24 questions), DILR (20 questions), and QA (20 questions) (22). The exam will take 120 minutes to complete.

According to the marking scheme, 3 points will be given for accurate answers and 1 point will be deducted for incorrect answers. 

The CAT exam is transitioning from a knowledge-based to an IQ-based assessment.

Candidates should download and study prior year CAT question papers to familiarize themselves with the syllabus, the difficulty level, and the kind of questions offered before beginning their preparation for CAT 2022.

What is CAT? CAT stands for Common Admission Test

 The Common Admission Test is abbreviated as CAT. It is a national-level MBA/PGDM entrance exam for admission to 20 IIMs and 1000+ other B-schools that accept the CAT result. Every year, around 2,00,000 people apply for the CAT exam in order to be considered for one of the 5000+ MBA/PGDM seats available. According to past year’s patterns, the CAT cut off for top IIMs is above 95 percentile, while it fluctuates between 80 and 95 percentile for other top universities.

CAT IIM Admission Criteria and qualifying cut offs have been released by all the IIMs on their official websites.

CIIM admission process includes 3 stages- shortlisting of candidates based on the qualifying CAT 2021 Cut off scores, screening for WAT/ PI, and preparation of a final merit list based on composite scores.

For IIM Ahmedabad Admission through CAT 2021, the PI shortlist has been released and the PI and AWT rounds will begin soon.

The application window for admission to IIM Visakhapatnam is open till March 15, 2022.

2022 CAT Notification

In the last week of July 2022, the conducting IIM will post the CAT notification 2022 on the official website. All relevant facts about CAT exam dates, application form release date, and any changes in eligibility, pattern, or curriculum will be included in the CAT Notification 2022. CAT 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria established by the exam conducting authority in order to fill out CAT Application forms.

Graduation: A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised university is required in any discipline.

Minimum Grades: Candidates must have a graduating grade point average of at least 50%. The required aggregate marks for restricted category candidates are 45 percent. Reservation

Age: There is no upper age limit for taking the CAT 2023 exam.

Students in their final year: Final-year students can also apply for the exam, but they will only be admitted if they achieve a minimum grade point average of 50% (40 percent for SC/ ST/ PwD) after graduation.Those who have finished their final exams and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply.

Candidates with professional degrees such as CA, CS, and ICWA are also eligible to apply for the CAT.

Number of Attempts: There is no restriction to how many times you can take the CAT exam.

CAT 2022 Registration

Every year, over 2 lakh people apply for the CAT exam. The Common Admissions Test (CAT) is the initial step toward admission to MBA programmes at IIMs, IITs, and other premier universities. The IIMs will release the CAT 2022 registration date on their official website soon.

The registration process for CAT 2022 will be entirely online, with application forms available at iimcat.ac.in.

From the first week of August until the second week of September 2022, the CAT 2022 application window will be open for 5-6 weeks.

Registration for CAT 2022

Candidate Registration for New Candidates: Create a User ID and Password for CAT.

Candidates must create their login credentials—CAT ID and Password—on the official website—iimcat.ac.in—by following the instructions below:

Under the ‘New Candidate Registration’ area of the official website, click the ‘Register’ tab.

To acquire an OTP, provide your basic information, such as your email address, name, phone number, country, and date of birth, and then click ‘Submit.’

Click ‘I Agree and Submit’ after entering the OTP and Captcha code.

Your CAT User ID and password will be generated and delivered to the email address you provided during registration. Make a note of it for future correspondence.

Complete the CAT Application Form.

To complete out the CAT application form 2022, log in using the user ID and password you created in the previous stage. The following information must be entered into the CAT application form:

Date of Birth, Category, Gender, Nationality, Parental Information, Correspondence Address, and Emergency Contact Information

Academic Information: Class 10th and 12th grades, graduation and postgraduate scores, and professional degree/course information.

Work Experience Details: Although not required, you can fill out this part with full-time work experience.

IIM Program Preference: Candidates must choose an IIM institute, a programme to apply for, and a city for the interview.

CAT Exam City Preference: Candidates can choose from a list of six CAT exam cities based on their schedule and travel convenience.     

Exam Pattern for CAT 2022

IIM Ahmedabad updated the CAT exam design in 2021, and these modifications will persist for the CAT 2022 exam. As a result, according to the CAT Exam Pattern 2022, the question paper will be divided into three portions, each with 66 questions.

Exam Mode: The CAT 2022 exam will be held in an online CBT format at 438+ test centres throughout 158+ major cities in India.

CAT Exam Medium: The CAT Exam is exclusively offered in English.

Duration of the CAT Exam: 120 minutes for the complete paper

Sectional Each of the three portions has a time limit of 40 minutes.

MCQs and TITA-style questions are the most common types of questions.

There are a total of 66 questions in this quiz. (70-75 percent multiple-choice questions, 25-30 percent TITA-style questions)

The total number of sectionsVARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension), QA (Quantitative Aptitude), and DIR (Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning) are the three components (DILR).

The CAT Marking Scheme is as follows:

You get 3 marks for every correct response and a one point deduction for every wrong response. For TITA-style questions and questions with no response, there is no negative grading.

Sectional Question Distribution:

CAT 2023 will be held on the last Sunday of November 2021, i.e. November 26, in three slots by one of the 20 IIMs, as in previous years. Registration for CAT 2023 will commence after the release of the official announcement, which will tentatively release by the last week of July 2023. Recent trends suggest that the eligibility, exam schedule, and curriculum for CAT 2023 will be somewhat similar to CAT 2022.

When will IIM release the official notification for CAT 2022 exam?

On the official website-iimcat.ac.in, IIM is likely to release the official announcement for CAT 2022 in the latter week of July 2022. Recent exam date trends suggest that NTA will conduct CAT 2022 exam on November 27, 2022.

How many candidates take CAT exam every year?

Every year, over 2,00,000 students take the CAT exam. In 2021, 2,29,969 people applied for the test, but only 1,91,660 people showed up.
