Planning to immigrate to Canada? Take guidance from Canada immigration consultants in Delhi.
To begin with, you should be clear of a few things before starting with the planning process:
- What is the purpose of your immigration (work, study, travel, business, etc.?)
- Are you traveling alone or with family/friends?
- When do you want to immigrate?
Let’s suppose you are immigrating for work purposes. You will need a few things before you can set foot in Canada. One of those things is the Canadian work permit.
Due to the Pandemic, the rules for immigration are slightly changed. Before traveling it is a must to be aware of them fully. Before you travel to the country make sure you follow testing and quarantine requirements to keep you and everyone around you safe.
Let us talk about ‘work-permit.’
What is a Canadian Work Permit? Let Canada immigration consultants in Delhi help you
If you are a foreign national and looking to work in Canada, you will require a work permit. A work permit is an official document that gives you permission to work anywhere in Canada.
Types of work permit
There are 2 types of work permits:
-
Employer-specific work permit
An employer-specific work permit allows you to work in Canada if you adhere to the following conditions:
- If you have the name of the specific employer you want to work for on the work permit
- How long you can work should be mentioned on the work permit
- The location of your workplace should also be mentioned
Before you are able to submit the employer-specific work permit, the employer who is going to hire you also needs to complete certain formalities.
The employer is supposed to give you a copy of the Labour Market Impact Assessment or an offer of employment number to include in your application.
-
Openwork permit
Under this work permit, you are allowed to work under any employer. The only condition is that should not be:
- Listed as ineligible on the list of employers who have failed to comply with the conditions
- Regularly offers striptease, erotic dance, escort services, or erotic massages
Choose the work permit according to your situation and requirements. Canada immigration consultants in Delhi can help you.
Prepare your documents
At your arrival in Canada you must have:
- Your passport
- Your visitor visa
- Any travel document you are carrying
You can do so by showing the letter of introduction to the border services at the port of entry.
The candidate is eligible to get this letter if:
- You applied online
- Gave Canadian Government an Email-ID in the work permit application form for communicating with you
It is up to you to show either the hard or soft copy of the letter.
Some supporting documents should also be carried along:
- Proof of non-discretionary travel when COVID-19 travel restrictions are in effect (if you don’t qualify as a fully vaccinated traveler)
- Proof that the company that is hiring you is open during the COVID-19 travel limitations (if you aren’t a fully vaccinated traveler)
- Evidence that you meet the job’s requirements, such as work experience and education
- If applicable, a copy of your employer’s positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
- when your employer submitted an offer of employment through the Employer Portal, they received an offer of employment number (if you are LMIA exempt and coming to work for a specific employer)
You are also required to have a copy of the certificat d’ acceptation du Québec (CAQ), if your employer needed an LMIA and you will work in Québec.
When you arrive in Canada
Canadian Government checks your identity
1 – If you enter Canada at certain Canadian airports
a – Your fingerprints will be checked
b – The system will check your identity against the information collected when your application was submitted
2 – If you enter Canada via smaller airports
a – Fingerprints are only checked if the officers refer you to a secondary inspection, where a border services officer will use a fingerprint verification device to check your fingerprints
You will have a word with the border services officer
Tell the border patrol officer you’ve come to work and present them the documents you’ve brought.
If you provide fraudulent or incomplete information, you will be denied entry to Canada.
You should also
- Convince the officer that you meet Canada’s entry requirements
- Have valid immigration medical exam results
The officers print your work permit
After the border services officer has reviewed your documentation and determined that you are eligible to enter Canada, the officer will print your work permit. Before you leave, ask the officer if you have any queries or if there is a mistake on your work permit.
Your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your visit to Canada. Your work permit will not be valid after the expiration date on your passport. This does not apply to citizens of the United States who present the border services officer with a valid United States passport.

What happens at the time of immigration?
A candidate goes through several rounds of questions and answers at the time of immigration at the airport.
If you’re like the majority of people, you have nothing to hide, going through customs can feel like a time-consuming process filled with pointless inquiries.
Knowing what questions to expect and having valuable material on hand, on the other hand, can help to expedite the process.
To ensure that you’re properly prepared for your next international journey, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most typical and strange questions asked at airport customs.
Commonly asked questions
Frequently, customs officers will ask you a question and be more interested in how you respond than the subject itself. So, as long as you’re being honest, there’s nothing to be concerned about!
You can easily take help from Canada immigration consultants in India.
-
Where have you flown from?
You should mention both the city and the country in your response. For example, ‘I flew from Montevideo, Uruguay,’
-
Where are you staying?
Customs inspectors will want you to be particular about where you’re staying, so be sure you know the address.
If you’re backpacking and haven’t yet determined where you’ll stay, make a note of a hostel or hotel that you’ll be staying at and include the address. If you’re staying on a cruise ship, including the ship’s name, the cruise line, and the port.
-
What is the purpose of your visit?
While a basic ‘leisure’ or ‘business’ response will suffice, the more descriptive you are, the less likely you will be asked additional questions. ‘I’m visiting the city to see what it has to offer,’ or ‘I’m here for a business meeting on Tuesday,’ for example, are more likely to include the information they seek.
-
How long will you be staying here?
One of the most frequently asked inquiries at airport customs is this. You don’t have to be accurate with the number of days; a response of ‘three weeks’, for example, should suffice.
-
Did you pack your own bag?
You would have packed your own suitcase 99 percent of the time. If you packed your own bag, respond with a prompt ‘Yes.’ ‘I brought my own luggage.’
However, there may be times when someone has assisted you in packing your suitcase, or a partner or family member has done so for you. With this inquiry, they’re basically asking if you know everything that’s in your bag, which is something you should definitely double-check before traveling.
It’s crucial to avoid being vague when answering this question. Don’t respond with a simple “no” if you haven’t packed your suitcase. “No, I didn’t pack the luggage myself; my partner did,” instead. ‘However, I am fully aware of the contents of the bag.’
